Chinese Embassy in the UK hosted a reception to mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China on Wednesday last week . H.E. Ambassador Zheng Zeguang delivered the keynote speech, while Parliamentary Under-Secretary Catherine West, representing the UK government, also addressed the gathering. The event was attended by more than 500 guests, including diplomats from various countries, representatives from the Chinese community, Chinese-funded institutions, and Chinese students in the UK.
In his remarks, Ambassador Zheng highlighted the significant progress China has made over the past 75 years under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. He emphasized that the Chinese people, united across all ethnic groups, have achieved remarkable milestones. In recent years, China has undergone unprecedented transformations, with its comprehensive national strength reaching historic levels. He noted that China’s development has become a driving force for the global economy and has contributed positively to world peace.
Ambassador Zheng further stated that China is striving to achieve modernization through its unique path. He underscored that with the implementation of reforms introduced at the Third Plenum of the 20th CPC Central Committee, China’s social vitality will be further invigorated, development momentum reinforced, and high-quality growth promoted. These developments will create new opportunities for China’s cooperation with other countries.
The Ambassador also noted that the United Kingdom was one of the first major Western nations to recognize the People’s Republic of China. Over the past 52 years, since the establishment of full diplomatic relations, China and the UK have developed a productive partnership. He called for both nations to build on the understanding between their leaders, uphold mutual respect, deepen engagement, and expand cooperation to strengthen their relationship and contribute to global peace and stability.
