China’s President Xi Jinping has pledged increased support for Sierra Leone, aiming to boost economic ties and encourage Chinese firms to invest in the mineral-rich nation. From Corporate Africa
Chinese President Xi Jinping met his counterpart from Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, in Beijing on Wednesday.
Xi said “China will work to take the relationship to new heights. China will continue to follow the principle of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith to enhance mutual understanding and friendly cooperation with African countries, further synergize China’s development with the development of Africa and the World,” according to Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying.
During discussions with President Julius Maada Bio, Xi highlighted the longstanding cooperation, emphasizing Sierra Leone as a model for unity and collaboration among African nations. China’s heightened diplomatic ties with African nations coincide with global shifts, as the United States also seeks to strengthen connections with the continent. These developments underscore the evolving landscape of Sino-African relations paving the way for increased collaboration and economic growth in Sierra Leone.
China’s Foreign Ministry said the two countries enjoy a “traditional friendship,” and have “firmly” supported each other on issues concerning core interests, carried out efficient cooperation in the field of economic and social development and maintained close coordination on international affairs.
