According to Horse and Rider ‘s reports, The National Horseracing Museum in Newmarket will be celebrating Chinese New Year – and the Year of the Horse – with a vibrant half-term celebration packed with colour, culture and hands-on fun for all ages. A lively family event will hold on Tuesday, 17 February, running from 10.30am to 2.30pm.

The festivities are being hosted in collaboration with the Cambridge Chinese Community Centre and promise an immersive experience for both children and adults. All activities are included within standard museum admission.

Visitors can expect a feast for the senses, with traditional Chinese culture brought to life through music, movement and striking visual displays. Costumes, dance and live performances will reflect the horse’s powerful symbolism of energy, vitality and forward momentum.

There will be plenty to get involved with throughout the day, including Chinese New Year storytelling, a dedicated children’s craft area, lantern making, paper cutting and traditional rubbing activities. A dress-up photo booth and face painting using classic Chinese motifs will add to the fun, while creative workshops such as Chinese knot tying and fan dancing offer something a little different.

Those keen to try something new can enjoy demonstrations and workshops in Tai Chi and traditional Chinese instruments, alongside a range of interactive sessions designed to give a flavour of authentic celebrations.

Street food-style Chinese snacks will also be available to buy, with treats including baozi, dumplings, noodles and candy floss on offer.

Live performances will take place between 1pm and 2.30pm, featuring Dragon Poi, Tai Chi, Kung Fu, fan dance, singing and Chinese music – the perfect finale to a day of celebration.

For horse lovers and families alike, it’s a unique opportunity to welcome the Year of the Horse in truly memorable fashion.
