Ma introduced about Canton Fair was established in 1957. It helds in Guangzhou every spring and autumn. It has now evolved into an all-round platform for opening-up, one that allows domestic and overseas enterprises to “sell to and buy from the world”.

Canton Fair in the new era is both comprehensive and specialized. With an exhibition space of 1.185 million m2, it attracts 25,000 exhibitors from home and abroad per session. The exhibition topics cover 16 categories in 51 sections, and each section is highly professional and representative of industries. Each session, Canton Fair attracts nearly 200,000 overseas buyers from over 200 countries and regions with more than 30 billion export transactions in US Dollars.

Since 2007, Canton Fair introduced the International Pavilion as a professional stage for overseas enterprises to enter the Chinese market and explore global trade. So far nearly 10,000 overseas enterprises from over 100 countries and regions have exhibited in the fair. Apart from the 200,000 global buyers along with the invited Chinese buyers, many Chinese exhibitors also have the intention of buying from their overseas counterparts.

The promotion conference also introduced the CIIE. In May 2017, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation that China will hold China International Import Expo (CIIE) starting from 2018. It marks a significant move for the Chinese government to push forward a new round of high-level opening-up and also serves as a powerful expression of its Belt and Road Initiative. The first CIIE will be co-hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and Shanghai government in Shanghai from November 5 to November 10, 2018.

The first China International Import Expo (CIIE) will include the Country Pavilion for Trade and Investment and Enterprise and Business Exhibition. So far, more than 200 overseas organizing agencies have been designated by more than 180 countries and regions. More than one thousand enterprises, including nearly one hundred Fortune Global 500 enterprises and as well as various industry leading enterprises have confirmed their participation. More than 1000 overseas enterprises from over 120 countries and regions have registered expo attendance. The active promotion of all areas of work will serve to constantly enhance and enlarge the value of the first CIIE. In addition, relevant works like business invitation, forum organization are progressing in order. Nearly 150,000 professional buyers from about 100 countries and nations including China are expected to participate in the expo.

Mr. Ma expressed that Canton Fair and CIIE are going to provide an ideal platform for exhibitors from UK to explore the Chinese market and pursue global development. The success in holding the promotion conference will enhance the perception of the Chinese market among enterprises in UK and encourage them to discover business opportunities through Canton Fair and CIIE so as to deepen mutual communication and achieve win-win growth for enterprises in both nations.
